The West Volusia Hospital Authority (WVHA) is an independent special tax district of Volusia County, whose charter is to provide access to health care for low-income residents of the district. The WVHA levies an ad valorem tax (property tax) on the owners of real property in the district to fund its activities. A board of five elected commissioners oversees the Authority, deciding how best to invest our resources to make sure our residents get the help they need, regardless of their ability to pay for it.
This is my personal website, not an official WVHA website. Until today, I have voluntarily maintained a basic site with information on meeting days and times, and information I felt might be of interest to taxpayers and those who utilized the services of the Hospital Authority. I have repeatedly been told by my fellow commissioners, however, that the WVHA does not need a website -- that HealthCard members do not have computers, and that a website is an unnecessary and unwanted expense for the taxpayers. I disagree, but as one voice, I been unsuccessful in changing the status quo.
If you believe the West Volusia Hospital Authority should have a website, please speak up. It will not happen at the hands of any one commissioner, and it will never happen for as long as a majority of commissioners believe it is not needed.

I hope you will do so.
